Manual Installation or upgrade of Private Funds Manager

 

If the Private Funds Manager auto-run installation encounters problems, such as the following message -

 

 

-you can install the program manually using the following procedure.

 

 

First try this:

 

  1. Open Windows Explorer or My Computer. Go to the CD drive, but rather than opening it directly choose Right Click – Explore.
  2. Double click on the folder called MAIN
  3. Double click on SETUP.  This may start the automatic installation procedure. If so, select a drive and folder for the installation either on the server or local disk.
  4. If you have installed on the server, go to each workstation that needs to run the program, and repeat the above except use the folder WORKSTATION instead of MAIN. On each workstation create a shortcut to the PFM.EXE on the Server installation.

 

If using the technique above still has a problem, do a manual installation as follows:

 

  1. Create a folder in your required location and call it PFM,  eg  S:\PFM on the network. Make sure that everyone who needs to run the program has full administrator rights to that folder.

 

  1. Put the CD into the drive and use Windows Explorer, My Computer or something similar to explore the CD and look into the folder on the CD called MAIN.

 

  1. Double-click on the file in MAIN called PFM

 

  1. From the files that appear, copy the following to the new folder you created in step 1:

  1. Now do a workstation installation on each computer to run the program as detailed above.

 

  1. Now, browse to the network folder created in step 1

 

  1. Double-click on the file called PFM and the program should run.

 

  1. To create a shortcut to the program from your desktop, close the PFM program and minimise all other program so your desktop shows.

 

  1. Right click on the desktop (somewhere other than where a current shortcut is located) and choose NEW – SHORTCUT.

 

  1. Browse to the PFM folder created in step1 and click on the file called PFM

 

  1. Click on the NEXT button and then the FINISH button. Now double click the shortcut to run the program.
